Where I'll Be
Monica Harrington has lived on the bleeding edge of high tech in both the for-profit and nonprofit worlds for more than 20 years. Currently an investor and writer, she was the founding chief marketing officer for two successful Seattle-area startups: Valve, maker of the blockbuster game “Half-Life” and the Steam game distribution system, and Picnik, which became the world’s most popular photo-editing site before Google acquired it in 2010.
Between companies, Monica worked at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where she managed the central communications team and served as media advisor to Bill and Melinda Gates. Before her work in startups, Monica was an award-winning senior marketer at Microsoft.
For the last several years, Monica has been working on strategy issues related to women’s health. In 2016, the University of Washington School of Law and the UW Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology named her a Woman of Courage for her reproductive health work.

Influencer and VP, Sales & Marketing at Visit Bend
Spending most of his childhood in Michigan, Nate grew up with a passion for being outdoors, riding his bike and playing in the water. Years later, he’s still passionate about the same activities. After college, Nate knew that he and his new wife had to find a place to start their life together capable of satisfying their adventure appetite. It was an article in Outside Magazine that originally drew him to Bend. Having the opportunity to market such a kick-ass destination as Bend is nothing short of a dream-come-true for Nate. As a cyclist, a home-brewer, and lover of all things outdoors, it couldn’t be a better fit.
Prior to coming to Visit Bend, Nate was the Marketing and Development Director for Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon. There he was in charge of fundraising, grant writing, all things marketing, public relations, website development, social media strategy, media relations and more. He still is passionate about serving nonprofits in the community, and can often be found in his spare time giving back.
