This World Made Itself
October 25 | 1:30
Miwa will perform an excerpt from her solo performance piece, This World Made Itself, followed by a Q and A. This piece is a live performance combining projected animation and a live performer’s shadow silhouette to tell the story of the history of the earth from its fiery beginnings to the complex world of humans.
Bend Design Speaker Panel: What keeps you up at night?
October 26 | 8:30 | 90 Minutes | DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Mt Bachelor Room
Join four creative problem solvers—Heidi Hackemer, Miwa Matreyek, Mohan Nair, John Bielenberg—from diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise for coffee (grab on your way) and conversation. Our guests will talk about staying culturally connected, evolving their careers, finding personal meaning in work, issues in our world that most need attention, and what gets them up in the morning. Moderated by Bend Design founder and co-producer René Mitchell.
Miwa Matreyek is an animator, designer, and performer based in Los Angeles. She creates live performances that integrate animation, performance, and video installation. Arriving to animation from a background in collage, her work explores how she can create dream-like, often surreal, yet emotionally impactful moments on stage, by combining animation and body, in a juxtaposition of the cinematic and theatrical, fantastical and the visceral.
Her work has been shown internationally at animation/film festivals, theater and performance festivals, as well as art galleries, science museums, tech conferences, universities, and more.
