Meet-up: What’s Good with Housing – The Missing Middle

October 27 | 8:30
90 Minutes | DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Drake Room

Bend, along with many other cities, is in a housing crisis with rental vacancies under 1% and home prices are skyrocketing. An assembly of approximately 30 community members from all constituent groups invested in addressing the affordable housing crisis in Bend came together to form the Bend Collaborative Housing Workgroup. Their yearlong effort focused on the critical need for housing for the Middle Market defined as families earning between 80% and 175% of the Area Median Income or between $40,000 and $90,000. This innovative project resulted in a comprehensive report of 12 consensus based recommendations for action to the Bend City Council in consultation with consultants from ECONortwest. The presenters Katherine Austin, AIA, and Ian Schmidt, Associate AIA, were part of this team effort for the past year and will share insight into both the critical need and the innovative solutions. This discussion is just a taste of the program scheduled for the following day presented by Southwestern Oregon American Institute of Architects in Bend.
